Movie posters aid the film in promotion but also act as the initial impression the consumer will base his perception of the movie around. This makes movie posters vital in conveying to the audience what this film is about and why they should as well as allowing the creators to target individuals who like specific genres.
In order to make a successful movie poster i have been looking at inspiration from other popular forms of media in order to gain an idea of what a movie posters consists of and allow me to base my ideas around existing concepts.
After looking at a number of movie posters from similar genres to mine i have decided to design a minimalistic-esk poster in order to convey a tasteful message. The movie poster will consist of a white dinner sheet with a lamb shank placed on top which is dripping blood into the sheet, making the contrast between the dull white and the vibrant red that much more noticeable and pungent. This is to allow the audience to decipher that the movie will deal with adult concepts with the animal and blood symbolising violence. However this imagery also acts as symbolism as the white represents the perfect suburban home life diluted with the harsh reality of their marriage and the eventual murder.
I have token inspiration from a number of crime, thriller and action movies which have deployed similar techniques in order to attract their target audience
Examples:
Here the white imagery of the swan and background contrasts against the dark shadows as well as the makeup which suggest a darker meaning. This is accurate as the film deals with adult concepts such as mental health and the affect her career has on it. Instantly the audience would be able to notice that the film has a much darker tone thanks to the contrasting to the colours.
Here the white imagery symbolises innocence, more importantly the innocence of the children, their purity. This is further emphasised through the use of their uniforms and schoolbags which are signifiers of adolescents. This however is contrasted with the deep red as well as the dead body suggesting an extremely dark and film suggesting to the audience that this film, although about children, is far from a child movie.
similarly here the poster contrasts the crimson blood with that of the bold white background creating an eerie contrast and clearly stating what concepts the film will explore and thus attracting the target audience.
From these examples and many more minimalist posters i drew my inspirtation in order to create the film poster. I feel that my artistic style is rather tasteful and clearly states the themes that are present within the film in order to gain an adience that enjoys films with a rather dark tone. The films titles as well as poster will hopefully be able to create a sense of mystery in what the film is actually about and how it narrative takes shape thus creating suspense among consumers and keeping an er of mystery surrounding the film. I also feel that font has a massive role in completing the tone of the film and should not be overlooked when deciding a poster as their is a massive difference between this
and this
in setting up the tone of the movie, with toy story showing a rather goofy and child like font and nightmare on elm street creating a rather unsettling font. From my research i can decide on what font to choose for my movie in order to create the atmosphere which the film will perpetuate.

6) What was your reaction to this film?
I found the film really interesting as the plot within the film was unique. I had never heard of Roalh Dahls or Albert Hitchcock's shorts and this was the first I've ever heard of the short story. The concept and plot of the film was really interesting and i enjoyed it a lot as well as the tension on whether or not Patrick would get away with the murder.
7) What improvements would you make to the film?
I would of preferred to have seen a little bit more female inclusion with the majority of the cast being males. I understand that the film made large strides from the original short in making the female the strong bread winner of the family, however i feel like the film would have reached out to a larger audience by including more females in its cast.

Questionnaire review
From the questionnaire above we can see that people enjoy our film, however this does not mean it is perfect. First of all the questionnaire has flaws in that it is closed and does not allow great depth of detail and thus we will not get a true understanding of the audience reactions of our film. Likewise the respondents are rather similar in that they all come from around about the same age range and thus we cannot get a true understanding of our target audience as older individual may not enjoy the film. This is due to the lack of access to the audience as we simply interviewed peers from school which limited the age range of our participants. We attempted to get a 50/50 split on Gender in order to gauge how different genders reacted to our film.
From audience feedback we can discern that despite our film overall being liked by the audience, lighting and sound as well as representation could have been worked on more. Lighting could have been improved by pre planning as well as smart use of lights and lighting equipment and likewise sound could be improved by using real sound equipment as well as heavy editing in order to remove static and echoing. We could also have attempted to reach out to excluded people in society and have greater representation within our film and make it more obvious when it is there.
